The Motorola PMMN4158B WM800 is a rugged wireless remote speaker microphone designed for compatible Motorola APX portable and mobile radios. Built for public safety and other demanding operations, the WM800 combines powerful audio, four High Dynamic Range microphones, advanced noise suppression and Bluetooth connectivity in an IP68-rated housing.

Unlike a traditional wired speaker microphone, the PMMN4158B lets users communicate without running a cable from the microphone to the radio. The radio can remain securely positioned on a belt, inside a vehicle or beneath protective clothing while the WM800 provides convenient access to push-to-talk, volume, emergency and programmable controls.

The PMMN4158C is the current revision of this product and supersedes PMMN4158B, PMMN4158A and PMMN4158. Confirm the supplied revision when ordering.

Advanced Four-Microphone Audio

The PMMN4158B uses an array of four High Dynamic Range microphones instead of relying on a single microphone opening. The microphones work with Motorola’s Adaptive Audio Engine to track the user’s voice and reduce surrounding noise.

This arrangement allows users to speak toward the WM800 from different positions while maintaining clearer transmitted audio. It is particularly valuable around:

  • Emergency-vehicle sirens
  • Road and traffic noise
  • Large crowds
  • Wind and severe weather
  • Industrial machinery
  • Construction equipment
  • Busy public-safety incidents

The system is designed to distinguish speech from environmental sound, helping important messages reach dispatchers and other team members more clearly.

Wireless Freedom for APX Radio Users

Because the WM800 connects wirelessly, the radio does not need to be removed from its case whenever the user transmits or adjusts the volume. This can reduce cable interference when entering vehicles, wearing tactical equipment or working around machinery.

Unlike a wired microphone, however, the WM800 has its own battery and must be charged. Agencies should include WM800 battery charging and replacement in their equipment-readiness procedures.

Rugged IP68 Construction

The Motorola PMMN4158B carries an IP68 environmental rating, providing complete dust protection and water-submersion resistance under Motorola’s specified test conditions.

The microphone is also listed as UL Division 2 compliant for properly classified hazardous-location applications. The radio, battery and every connected accessory must have the required approval for the complete system to be considered suitable for hazardous-location use.

Emergency and Programmable Controls

The WM800 places important controls directly on the speaker microphone, including:

  • Push-to-talk
  • Emergency button
  • Volume rocker
  • Two programmable buttons
  • Task-light button
  • Front three-dot programmable button

When paired with a properly equipped APX NEXT radio, the front button can provide access to supported ViQi Voice Control and ViQi Virtual Partner functions. ViQi features require the appropriate radio configuration, software options and system support. With other radios, the button may be assigned to a supported programmable function.

Replaceable PMNN4846 Battery

The PMMN4158B uses a removable, rechargeable battery rather than a permanently sealed internal battery. This allows a depleted battery to be exchanged without replacing the entire microphone.

The associated replacement battery is the Motorola PMNN4846A, a 2,150 mAh lithium-ion battery with IP68 protection and hazardous-location approval appropriate to the WM800 configuration.

The microphone can be charged using its supplied USB-C charging cable or an optional compatible dual-unit desktop charger.

Compatible Motorola Radios

The WM800’s expanded radio support depends on installed radio firmware. Reported compatibility includes the following radio families when the required software release is installed:

PMMN4158B vs. PMMN4128 RM780

The PMMN4128 RM780 is a wired IMPRES remote speaker microphone. It offers an emergency button, volume rocker, programmable buttons and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Choose the PMMN4158B when eliminating the radio-to-microphone cable is the priority. Choose the PMMN4128 when users prefer a lighter wired microphone that receives power through the radio and does not require a separate microphone battery.

PMMN4158B vs. PMMN4135 XVP850

The PMMN4135 XVP850 is a rugged wired microphone with advanced multi-microphone noise suppression. Its most notable difference is its channel-selection knob, which lets users change channels from the microphone without reaching for the radio.

Choose the WM800 for wireless mobility. Choose the XVP850 when a physical channel knob, wired reliability or Division 1 hazardous-location configuration is more important.

PMMN4158B vs. PMMN4136 XVP830

The PMMN4136 XVP830 provides many of the XVP850’s rugged audio features but eliminates the channel knob. It is a strong alternative for users who want an advanced wired RSM without channel selection on the microphone.

The XVP830 does not need to be paired or separately charged. The WM800 provides greater freedom of movement but requires battery management and compatible radio firmware.

Which APX Speaker Microphone Should You Choose?

Choose the PMMN4158B WM800 if you need:

  • A wireless connection between the radio and microphone
  • Four-microphone noise suppression
  • IP68 protection
  • A user-replaceable battery
  • APX NEXT ViQi access
  • Emergency, volume and programmable controls
  • Freedom from a radio-to-microphone cable

Consider the PMMN4128 RM780 if you want a lighter wired microphone with straightforward controls and no separate battery.

Consider the PMMN4135 XVP850 if you require a channel knob on the microphone or a Division 1 configuration.

Consider the PMMN4136 XVP830 if you want advanced XVP audio in a wired microphone without a channel knob.
