Motorola APX N70 Chargers: Every Compatible Option, Compared
Keeping an APX N70 ready for a full shift takes more than a good battery. The charger you choose decides how fast batteries come back to full, whether you can charge a whole team at once, and whether a spare stays topped off in the patrol car. This guide covers every charger that works with the Motorola APX N70, compares what each one offers, and explains how to pick the right setup for your agency or team.
How APX N70 Charging Works
The APX N70 runs on IMPRES 2 batteries: the PMNN4816 3200mAh standard battery, the PMNN4817 4400mAh high-capacity battery, and the PMNN4818 3650mAh battery. Each is designed to be charged in an IMPRES 2 charger. Motorola notes that the batteries' self-calibration feature, which saves you from long monthly recalibration cycles, works when they are charged in IMPRES 2 single-unit and multi-unit chargers running software version V2.03 or above.

Motorola PMPN4604 IMPRES 2 Single-Unit Charger
The PMPN4604 is the everyday charger for an individual APX N70. It charges a battery on its own or while it's attached to the radio, with up to 3A per pocket. Two USB-A outputs let you charge Bluetooth accessories at the same time, and the firmware is upgradeable. It also connects to PC-based fleet management software.
It's compact, at about 75 x 100 x 125 mm, and it plugs into a standard 120V outlet. That makes it a good fit for a desk, locker, or home base.
Choose it if: you need a reliable charger for one radio, or a spare at each work location.
Motorola PMPN4591 IMPRES 2 Multi-Unit Charger
When a whole team swaps radios at shift change, the PMPN4591 charges six at once. It has six displays showing the status of each pocket, six integrated USB charging ports, and a 100-240V power input that works with standard outlets.
To seat an APX N70 radio in this charger you need the AS000178A01 charger pocket, Motorola's insert for the N70 and N70 XE. Check with us on whether your order needs pockets before you buy. A wall mount (NLN7967) is also available for multi-unit chargers if you want to free up counter space.
Choose it if: you run a station, dispatch center, security team, or any fleet with a shared pool of radios or batteries.
Motorola PMPN4639 Vehicle Charger
The PMPN4639B keeps the radio charging in the vehicle, so it's fully powered when the officer or crew member steps out. It supports fast charging in a vehicular environment and runs from the vehicle's 12V system. Motorola notes that it offers an external DVRS switch but has no internal sensor like the older APX vehicle charger.
It's compatible with the APX N70, APX NEXT, NEXT XE, and NEXT XN families.
Choose it if: your team works out of vehicles and needs the radio charging on the go.
Motorola PMPN4649 Vehicle Charger Battery Adapter
The PMPN4649B is a small insert that fits the PMPN4639 vehicle charger and turns it into a battery-only charger. It charges a loose battery, so a spare stays fully charged in the vehicle. It's listed for the APX N70 and N70 XE.
Choose it if: you carry a spare battery in the vehicle and want it ready for a long shift.
Charger Accessories for the APX N70
- AS000178A01 charger pocket: the insert that lets the N70 and N70 XE sit in the multi-unit charger
- NLN7967 wall mount: mounts IMPRES 2 multi-unit chargers to a wall
- PS000040A02 power supply: the replacement power supply for the single-unit charger
Chargers That Look Similar but Aren't for the APX N70
Motorola sells separate chargers for the smaller APX N30 and N50 radios, including the PMPN4820 single-unit and PMPN4594 multi-unit chargers. Those are listed for the N30 and N50 series, not the N70. Older APX chargers, such as those made for the APX 6000 and 8000, don't appear on Motorola's APX N70 accessory list either. If you're mixing radio models in one fleet, double-check each charger before ordering, and contact us if you're unsure.
Which APX N70 Charger Should You Buy?
- One radio, one desk: the single-unit PMPN4604
- A team or station: the six-unit PMPN4591, plus the N70 charger pockets
- Patrol cars and field vehicles: the PMPN4639B vehicle charger, plus the PMPN4649B if you carry a spare battery
- Mixed setups: many agencies pair a multi-unit charger at the station with vehicle chargers in the field

Frequently Asked Questions
What charger comes with the Motorola APX N70?
That depends on how your radio was ordered. Chargers are typically sold separately, so check what came with your package before you buy.
Can I charge an APX N70 battery by itself?
Yes. The single-unit charger charges a battery alone or attached to the radio, and the vehicle battery adapter charges a loose battery in the vehicle.
How many radios can the multi-unit charger handle?
Six at once. Use the AS000178A01 charger pocket for the APX N70.
Are APX N30 and N50 chargers compatible with the N70?
No. Motorola lists separate chargers for the N30 and N50, so buy the chargers listed for the N70.
Do I need an IMPRES 2 charger?
For the best results, yes. The N70's IMPRES 2 batteries are designed to work with IMPRES 2 chargers, which also support the self-calibration feature.
