Motorola AN000296A01 700/800 MHz Stubby Antenna for APX NEXT & APX NEXT XE
The Motorola AN000296A01 is a genuine Motorola Solutions stubby antenna built for the APX NEXT and APX NEXT XE portable radios. It covers the 700/800 MHz band (760–870 MHz) and measures just 2.6 inches, making it the most compact antenna in the APX NEXT line.
Motorola designed this antenna for wearability. Its short profile stays clear of clothing, vests, seat belts and shoulder-mounted gear, so it will not snag while you work. It is a direct OEM replacement for a lost or damaged APX NEXT 700/800 MHz stubby antenna, and a popular upgrade for users who find a full-length whip gets in the way.

What Radios Does the AN000296A01 Fit?
The AN000296A01 is made for the Motorola APX NEXT platform:
- Motorola APX NEXT portable radio: shop all APX NEXT batteries and accessories
- Motorola APX NEXT XE portable radio: shop all APX NEXT XE batteries and accessories
Radios the AN000296A01 Does Not Fit
- APX 6000, APX 7000, APX 8000 and other earlier APX portables. Those radios need an antenna with GPS hardware built in. APX NEXT antennas have none because the GPS receiver is inside the radio, so Motorola states they cannot be used on other APX models.
- APX N30, APX N50 and APX N70. The N-series radios use a different antenna family.

AN000296A01 vs. Other APX NEXT Antennas
The AN000296A01 is the right choice when your system is 700/800 MHz only and you want the smallest antenna possible. If you need more bands, choose a whip.
| Antenna | Style | Coverage | Length | Best For |
| AN000296A01 | Stubby | 760–870 MHz | 2.6 in | 700/800 MHz systems, most compact |
| Motorola AN000297A01 | Flexible whip | VHF, UHF, 700/800 MHz | 7.9 in | Multi-band users and interoperability |
| Motorola AN000393A01 | Short whip | UHF 350–520 MHz | 5.5 in | UHF-only systems |
| AN000296A01 | AN000297A01 | |
| Type | Stubby | Whip |
| 700/800 MHz | 760–870 MHz | 760–870 MHz |
| VHF | No | 136–174 MHz |
| UHF | No | 380–520 MHz |
| Length | 2.6" | 7.9" |
| Best for | Compact 700/800 MHz operation | Multi-band operation |
Choose the AN000296A01 if:
Your agency operates only on a 700/800 MHz system and you want a short antenna that stays out of the way.
Choose the AN000297A01 if:
Your APX NEXT operates on more than one band, or you work mutual aid across VHF, UHF and 700/800 systems. See the Motorola AN000297A01 All-Band Whip Antenna.
Choose the AN000393A01 if:
You operate only on UHF. See the Motorola AN000393A01 UHF Whip Antenna.
Stubby or Whip: Which Is Right for You?
A stubby antenna is easier to wear. It suits users who carry the radio on a belt or chest rig, work in and out of vehicles, or find a long antenna catching on gear. A shorter antenna generally gives up some range compared with a full-length whip, so users at the edge of system coverage may prefer the AN000297A01 all-band whip. Inside solid 700/800 MHz coverage, the stubby is the more comfortable choice.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Motorola AN000296A01?

What radios does the AN000296A01 fit?
It fits the Motorola APX NEXT and APX NEXT XE.
Will the AN000296A01 work on an APX 6000 or APX 8000?
No. Earlier APX portables need an antenna with GPS hardware inside. APX NEXT antennas do not have it, so they are not interchangeable.
Does the AN000296A01 work on VHF or UHF?

Is this a genuine Motorola antenna?
Yes. The AN000296A01 is an original Motorola Solutions part with a 1-year warranty.
