Motorola APX N70 Speaker Mics:  Find out which one is best for you.

A speaker mic is the part of your APX N70 setup you handle the most. It's how you transmit, how you hear in a loud scene, and often how you call for help. This guide covers the remote speaker microphones that work with the Motorola APX N70, compares what each one offers, and explains how to choose the right one for your job.

Before You Buy: The APX N70 Uses a Mini-GCAI Connector

The APX N series uses a smaller mini-GCAI connector that works only with the N70, N50, and N30. Older APX speaker mics, such as the PMMN4099 or PMMN4062, use the larger connector and will not fit the N70. Only buy speaker mics listed for the N series. Also make sure your radio is running current firmware. For the XVP speaker mics, Motorola resellers list APX N70 firmware R01.00.00 or later.

Motorola XVP750 (PMMN4141A) Remote Speaker Mic with Channel Knob

The XVP750 is Motorola's top wired speaker mic for the APX N70. It uses four digital HDR microphones with noise-suppression software that follows your voice and filters out background noise, however you position the mic. It's matched to the same Adaptive Audio Engine as the N70, so your voice stays clear in traffic, crowds, and wind.

You also get a channel selector knob, a dedicated ViQi button, an orange emergency button, and a 360-degree rotating clip with a D-ring. It's IP68 submersible and HAZLOC certified for Div 1 (intrinsically safe) and Div 2.

Choose it if: you switch channels often and want the best audio Motorola offers.

Motorola XVP730 (PMMN4142A) Remote Speaker Mic

The XVP730 has the same four-mic audio, loud speaker, IP68 rating, HAZLOC certification, emergency button, and rotating clip as the XVP750, but without the channel knob. That makes the controls simpler and the body a little cleaner.

Choose it if: you want XVP audio quality but don't need to change channels from the mic.

Motorola RM780 (PMMN4128B) Remote Speaker Mic

The RM780 pairs a large head and slim design with an extra-loud speaker, a coil cord, and a rocker volume control. It's UL TIA intrinsically safe, IP68 submersible, and has an orange emergency button and a rotating clip. It works with the APX N70, N70 XE, N50, and N30, as well as the MOTOTRBO R7 and ION.

Choose it if: you want a rugged, loud, easy-to-use speaker mic without the multi-mic noise suppression of the XVP line.

Motorola XVE500m (PMMN4172, PMMN4173) Remote Speaker Mic

The XVE500m is Motorola's speaker mic for extreme environments, listed on Motorola's APX N70 XE page for firefighters. Its dual HDR mics pick up a voice even when workers are shouting. Volume adjusts automatically so loud and soft talkers are both heard, and feedback suppression cuts the howl when radios are close together. The powerful speaker doubles as a Speaker As Mic (SAM) that filters wind and background noise.

There are three versions: PMMN4172 in high-impact green with a channel knob, PMMN4173 without a knob, and PMMN4173ABLK in black without a knob.

Choose it if: you work in fire and rescue or other loud, hazardous, high-stress settings.

Motorola WM800 (PMMN4158C) Wireless Speaker Mic

The WM800 is the cable-free option. It lets you carry your radio on your belt or in a vehicle and keep the mic on your shoulder, with no coil cord to snag. It's listed for the APX N70, N50, and N30, and it uses its own charger, the PMPN4653 dual-unit charger.

Choose it if: you want freedom of movement without a cord.
